What to Expect

  • Mild tenderness, swelling, redness, bruising, or a sensation of fullness in treated areas is common.
  • These effects usually resolve within a few days to two weeks.


Aftercare Guidelines

  • Do not touch, press, or massage treated areas for at least 24 hours (unless instructed by your provider).
  • No facials, dental work, or vaccinations for 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Apply a cool compress (not direct ice) for short periods to reduce swelling.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, and excessive heat for 24–48 hours.
  • No alcohol or non-prescribed blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil) for 24 hours unless directed by your provider.
  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be used for discomfort (unless contraindicated).
  • Arnica cream may help reduce bruising if desired.

Special Notes:

  • Cheek fillers: Temporary odd sensation when smiling is normal.
  • Lip fillers: Kissing or lip movement may feel different for a few days.


Possible Side Effects & Complications

Common Side Effects

– Bruising or swelling (10–50%)
– Mild redness or tenderness (10–30%)

Rare/Serious Complications

  • Infection (<1%)
  • Allergic reaction (<0.1%)
  • Vascular occlusion (blood vessel blockage) (<0.1%)
  • Tissue necrosis (skin breakdown) (<0.01%)
  • Vision changes or blindness (<0.01%)

When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

Contact your provider or seek emergency care if you experience:

  • Severe or increasing pain at or near the injection site
  • Sudden or worsening swelling not improving after 24–48 hours
  • Skin color changes: blanching (whiteness), dusky or purple discoloration, or mottling
  • Blisters, open sores, or skin breakdown
  • Vision changes (blurred or double vision, vision loss, eye pain)
  • Signs of infection: increasing redness, warmth, tenderness, pus, or fever
  • Allergic reactions: rash, hives, significant swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing

Activity After Treatment

  • Light activity is safe.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours.
  • If you notice sudden pain, blanching, or discoloration, contact your provider immediately—urgent treatment may be needed.

Most people do very well after fillers and only need simple care. If you have any concerns or notice anything unusual, please contact us right away.
